青森県弘前市の西部にある岩木山（標高1625m）には、糖度18度以上にもなる甘いトーモロコシが栽培されている。嶽きみ（だけきみ）という。「きみ」とは津軽弁で「とうもろこし」のこと。

Mt. Iwaki (elevation of 1625m) in the western part of Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture, is cultivated with sweet corn with a sugar content of up to 18 degrees and above. This corn is known as “Dakekimi corn”.“Kimi” is a Tsugaru dialect for the word “corn”.

8月上旬から9月中下旬までの、二ヶ月弱の間、岩木山に向かう弘前市百沢～嶽地区街道には、嶽きみを売る露店が立ち並ぶ。多くの人が車で買いに来る。店では、採れたての嶽きみを販売するだけでなく、その場で食べられるように茹でても販売している。

About for almost 2 months starting from early August to mid-September, there will be stalls selling Dakekimi corn on the Hyakuzawa-Tate district highway in Hirosaki City, which heads for Mt. Iwaki. Lots of people come by car to buy this sweet corn. The stalls here do not only sell fresh corn, but also sell corns that are boiled and can be eaten on the spot.

小田桐農園では、店の近くの自家農園の嶽きみを、朝に収穫し、販売しており、味の良さを知る常連客がひっきりなしに買いに来る。コロナ禍で、前より来店客は減ったということだが、その分、発送が増えたという。帰省できないため、毎年の味を求めて注文するという。以前は、インバウンド客も来ていたそうだが、海外の人は、みんな甘いと驚いていたそうだ。

At Odagiri farm, Dakekimi are harvest and sell at a store near to the farm. Regular customers who are familiar with the tastefulness of the corn come and buy it all the time. Number of customers visiting the store had greatly decreased due to the coronavirus pandemic, but on the other hand, shipments for these corns had increased. This is because of the demands from those who are not able to travel back here currently. In the past, tourists from other countries were also surprised by the sweetness of the corns.

街道を下っていく途中の景色を楽しみ、始まったリンゴの収穫も見られる。
この時期のリンゴは、早生品種の「つがる」。

Enjoy the scenery on the way down the highway and the apple harvest process as it has begun.
The apple species of this period are the early-maturing varieties known as “Tsugaru”.

もう少し下っていくと、温泉宿泊施設「あそべの森いわき荘」の入り口看板があり、その横に、愛犬と一緒にお茶が楽しめるカフェ「LITTLE　NOOK」がある。もちろん、ワンちゃんと一緒でなくてもいい。

There is an entrance signboard for a hot spring accommodation facility known as “Asobenomori Iwakiso”. Next to it is a dog café known as “LITTLE NOOK”, where you can enjoy a lovely cup of tea with dogs. Of course, you don’t have to be with your dog to enter the café.

宿泊施設だけでなく、立ち寄り湯もある。いまは、コロナ禍で、営業内容を縮小しているので、確認してからのほうが良い。

いわき山荘から下っていくと、岩木山神社（Iwaki Yama jinja）がある。
You will find Iwaki Yama Shrine by going down from Iwaki Sanso.

岩木山がご神体で、今から１２００有余年前、岩木山頂に社殿を創建した。コロナ禍で、今は、行われていないが、9月には、「五穀豊穣」「家内安全」を祈願して、集団登拝する「お山参詣」という神事があり、近隣の集落から幟を掲げ、神社にお参りする。参考までに、このことは、前に記載している。

岩木山神社は、開運来福の神社と知られているので、ぜひ、お参りして欲しい。

Mt. Iwaki is a representation of God, and the shrine was built on the summit of Mt. Iwaki more than 1200 years ago.
Shinto rituals of September are such as “Oyama pilgrimage” to pray for “Five-grain fertility” and “household safety” and to worship in groups. But it is cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. For reference, this has been mentioned earlier.
Iwaki Yama Shrine is known as the shrine of good luck. So please do come for a visit.
