Ornament Charcoal and Pizza

Workshop Junko; Mr. Takayoshi Ishiyama (86) and Mrs. Junko (65)

“Agriculture Experiencing Cafe” that consists meanings of “Connection”, “Fresh” and “Friendly”. A hands-on cafe that interacts with farmers and spend relaxed time with delicious meals.

This is a business Aomori Prefecture Central and Southern Branch Office

Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery Department Agricultural Support Sectionhas started.

There are approximately 30 participants who attended the seminar so far. Four farm households have actually started since last year. Six farmers will start this year.

At the first glance, it is an ordinary home.

Inside the house, where I was led into while I was wondering whether it is an appropriate way, exhibited the works of ornament charcoal, Hanasumi, made up. This ornament carbon, Hanasumi, is also called “decorative charcoal” and has been used in the world of tea ceremony since ancient times but now it is used as an interior ornament which made pine cones, tree nuts, fruits, or vegetables to charcoal.

Mrs. Ishiyama was impressed by the beauty of the charcoal placed in the furnace during the tea ceremony and began making charcoal.

“Even if you say ‘black’ to a bite, there are various blacks, blue series, red series. I was fascinated to the black of the decorative coal,” she says.

When turning to the back of the house, purple smoke of grilled-charcoal is rising in the green garden.

Making decorative charcoal is unexpectedly easy. Choose the material you want to make charcoal. Put it in a can of an affordable size, place it on the coal of the furnace and wait for about 30 minutes.
A large chestnut that stretched branches over the oven sometimes falls.

Mrs. Junko ‘s story while waiting:

This place was a trace of a castle called “Ozaki Castle”. Indeed, banks behind the garden are remained after the fences were gone. These villages around here were a castle town, which is now mostly build as a residential area. But it is said that it is a relatively good condition where moats and cut-cliff are left. There is a shrine just beside the garden.

“Ozaki Castle” was defeated in the battle of Sekigahara and fell down.

While listening to the story of an epic historical romance, I was seeing the charcoal smoke and felt that the time is passing in a very slow pace.

When the time passed and no more smoke came out, it is a finished sign. Mrs. Junko checks the quality of charcoal. It must be closed with the lid until cooling it down, or oxygen comes in and burn it in the fire. So that we have to wait. You can bring the charcoal you made.

In the meanwhile, we made pizza.
The stove that was used for making charcoal turns to the oven for pizza.

Having pizza with a cup of coffee. The figs from the garden is sweet and delicious.

It was a pizza cooked with vegetables and figs that were just picked from the yard. There are foods only if you stretch out your hands, and there is a luxurious time to relax and have a good time.

Mr. Takayoshi, who was born in Ibaraki, came here to succeed wife’s parents’ home.

He said that it was hard to clean up snow. Now he loves the moon seen from the garden and says, “the moon seen from our garden is the best.” “He wasn’t such person who says such a thing,” Mrs. Junko speaks.

It is “Cafe of Agriculture” where you can relax.
